Hexham Store Cattle Dearer
Hexham & Northern Marts offered exactly 600 head of store cattle and suckled calves for their last sale of May.
A good entry so late in the spring saw a good crowd gather ringside and as such, all classes were ever so slightly dearer on the week. Leading the sale was a forward Limousin cross bred bullock from Messrs Walker Bros, Satley which peaked at £1360 and led their run of eight which averaged £1228. This one was followed by a similar sort from Messrs Gregory, Springhill, Seahouses which hit £1320 and saw their four average £1298.

With the quality on offer decreasing as spring marches towards summer a good number of purchasers came out of the woodwork looking for last minute grazing types and consequently these classes of both steers and heifers looked dearer.
