Successful Hampshire Down Inaugural Stirling Fixture
Quality Hampshire Downs met a strong demand selling to a top of 1,000gns twice at the breed association’s inaugural show and sale in Stirling on Wednesday 25 May 2016.
The first 1,000gns bid was made for a shearling ewe by St Paul Harold from Tim and Judith Hunter, Fotherby, Louth to J Hooks, Bullamoor, Northallerton.

The day’s overall champion, a ewe lamb by the homebred Lecropt Lewis from Roy and Jane McFarlane and Lorna Rennie, Bridge of Allan, Stirling was secured for the second 1,000gns price tag by TB Chapman, Portadown, Armagh. The same buyer invested in two more females from the McFarlane Rennie partnership; at 550gns he took a shearling ewe by Graylen D’Artagnan whilst he paid 500gns for a ewe lamb by Yarcombe Dynamo.
Heading the ram trade at 600gns was the reserve champion, a lamb by Wattisfield What Not from Richard Brand and Son, East Fortune, North Berwick to John Mercer, Dromore, County Down.
Two ram lambs shared a 550gns bid. First to go from Janet and Brian Hill, Kingarth, Isle of Bute was an entry by Whitehead Shakespeare to M and E Drummond, Maybole, Ayrshire. The second 550gns entry,within the breed’s top 5% by Yarcombe Flashman came from KP and AE McCarthy, Comber, County Down to JN and G Wilkins, Biggar, Lanarkshire. The McCarthys also offered a ewe lamb by Ballycreelly Why Not for 500gns to Walter Warwick, Biggar.
