           Solid commercial demand for Charolais bulls underpinned by the premium
            marketplace for Charolais cross calves set a buoyant trade at the
            breed society’s official spring show and sale in Welshpool,
            on Thursday 19 April. 
          
                
                Maerdy Amorist CH23 sold for 5,800 guineas

          Bidding peaked at 5,800gns, a 3,800gns price both started and closed
            the sale, 31 lots sold to achieve a new centre record average of £2,868
            and an 85% clearance was achieved. 
             
            Sale leader at 5,800gns was the day’s champion, Maerdy Amorist
            CH23, a 17 month old from Flintshire based vet, Esmor Evans, Mold.
            A Fairway Soprano son and out of a homebred cow by Maerdy Naser,
            Amorist qualified for the Welsh Beef Quality Improvement Project
            (WBQIP). The buyer was TT Jones, Llanbrynmair, Powys. 
             
            Mr Evans who sold a string of 13 bulls in total, offered his next
            best, Maerdy Agakhan CH27 at 4,800gs to DL Jones, Ammanford, Glamorgan.
            A WBQIP qualifier, this 21 month old was by Maerdy Naser and out
            of a home bred cow going back to Glencardon Piper. 
             
            Another Maerdy Naser son, this time the December 2005 born Maerdy
            Amaryl CH21 made 4,300gns to HB Tudor, Llanilar, Aberystwyth. 
             
            The day’s second highest bid at 5,600gns came from father and
            son team, Glyn and Chris Pennie, Llandyssil, Montgomery for Hendy
            Archiemac, a 19 month old Allanfauld Vagabond son and out of a Basset
            Judge sired home bred cow. Archiemac was bred and exhibited by Wyn
            Rees, Nantyrhendy, Llangurig. 
             
            Closely followed at 5,500gns was Charbron Achievement, an April 2005
            born Caylers Supreme son and out of a hombred cow from Mike Brown,
            Barons Cross Charolais Stud, Aymestrey, Leominster. The buyers were
            PW and G Humphreys, Capel Bangor, Aberystwyth. 
             
            Another entry from Barons Cross, the 21 month old Charbron Ambition
            by Barnsley Piquet made 3,500gns to BD and CO Pugh, Rhoslefain, Tywyn. 
             
            Roger Coppinger, Edstaston, Wem offered his Midas Actionman CH26
            at 4,000gns to EH and EW Anwyl, Staylittle, Llanbrynmair. A Loganbar
            Herdsman son, he was out of a homebred cow by Balthayock Matthew. 
             
            Both the first and the last lots in the ring shared a 3,800gns bid.
            First to go was Brampton Alfie CH24, a two year old Brampton Ronaldo
            son from Billy Turner, Skelton on Ure, Ripon. He sold to PL Francis
            and Son, Leebotwood, Church Stretton. 
             
            The 13 month old Springfarm Braveheart CH35 commanded the second
            3,800gns price tag this time from I and LL Jones, Gaerwen, Anglesey.
            Bred and exhibited by Peter and Nicola Darlington, Minshall Vernon,
            Crewe this Mowbraypark Paramount son was out of a Braigiewell bred
            cow and qualified for the WBQIP.
