Dairy farming for the next generation: RABDF College Lecturers Day

The dairy sector will come under the spotlight at a conference staged specifically for agricultural college lecturers by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers’ at Reaseheath College, Nantwich, on Wednesday 17 January.

The event, which is hosted by Reaseheath College and sponsored by the Defra Farm Health Planning Group and Merial Animal Health, will examine the current state of the dairy industry. This will include discussions on the true costs of milk production, together with health and environment issues facing the sector, and training and skills requirements for the next generation of farmers. Speakers include RABDF chairman Tim Brigstocke, Defra Farm Health Planning’s Dawn Howard and John Sumner, Merial’s Nigel Otter, the Environment Agency’s Jane James and Delta Innovation’s Dr Steve Webster.

“RABDF’s role extends beyond working for Britain’s current dairy farmers to helping the next generation, which had led us to organize an event to bring college lecturers up to speed with our very complex and ever changing sector,” explains the association’s chief executive, Nick Everington. “We have carefully designed the programme to improve their knowledge and encourage them to instill some enthusiasm for dairying into their college students, who are our future life blood.”
