Landini ‘Bufalo 3000’ wins Italian tractor
                pulling title

Perkins engine developed to produce more than 900hp!

No plans for a production replica. ..
It may be a far cry from the tractors normally seen ploughing
or handling a manure spreader on farms up and down the country
but the specially-built ‘Bufalo 3000’ developed for
competition use still has plenty in common with its standard cousins.

The Landini Legend-based machine competes in the Pro-Stock class
of tractor pulling, a sport in which the tractors must be production
models, albeit highly modified. And despite being limited to using
a single turbocharger to boost the engine’s output, the Moretti
brothers who own the tractor have so far extracted more than 900hp
from the Perkins six-cylinder that powers the Bufalo!

The skill of a tractor pulling competitor like Landini pilot Elvio
Moretti lies in getting the tractor off the line and then using
its traction to the full to power along a 100m dirt track. The
winner is the tractor that goes the farthest while an increasingly
heavy dead weight tries to slow it down.

Mr Moretti is clearly made of the right stuff because his driving
skill, together with power and traction of his outlandish Landini,
gave him a dominant win in the 2005 Italian tractor pulling championship.

Despite the appeal of this spectacular-looking machine and the
spine-tingling roar it makes in competition, Landini says it has
no plans to produce a production replica! It will, however, be
introducing new models this year that take the Landini range into
new higher horsepower categories, using advanced engine and transmission
technology that will give users a real productivity boost.
