Environmental accreditation for Cumbrian feed mill
              09/03/05

The Pye Bibby Agriculture mill at Langwathby has become one of
the few animal feed mills in the country to achieve a prestigious
            environmental accreditation.
The mill has been recommended by BSI for accreditation to ISO
14001, the International Environmental Management Standard. The
accreditation comes at a time when business development and environmental
              protection go hand-in-hand.
Operations Manager John Edgar said; "We are delighted with
this achievement. It means the highest recognition for sites meeting
the latest, stringent environmental compliance standards.
"We also believe that we can improve our business performance
by improving environmental performance. The ISO 14001 not only
focuses on our legal obligations but also on a wide range of business
              practises.
Mr Edgar continued; "Everything from spillage control, waste
management, drainage systems, day to day operations through to
energy management are assessed for environmental aspects and impacts.
This has produced an environmental management system which allows
us to set real objectives and targets.
"Many of the changes we have made to the way we operate not
only meet our environmental objectives but help us to reach our
business performance targets. The environmental management system
is a continual process of planning, acting and auditing. BSI will
continue to audit the system on a bi-annual basis."
The Pye Bibby Agriculture mills (Shrewsbury, Blackburn, Lancaster
and Langwathby) have all achieved accreditation.
