NFU Scotland has described new rules to control bovine TB as
a strict but necessary part of the fight against the spread of
the disease. From today (17 February), automatic movement restrictions
will be placed on any cattle herd that is overdue its regular
              TB test.
NFUS is reminding its members to react quickly to any SEERAD
letter notifying them that a TB test is due. For those who now
face movement restrictions because they are overdue, these will
be lifted as soon as the necessary tests are completed.
NFUS Livestock Chairman Nigel Miller said:
"This is undoubtedly going to cause difficulties for anyone
who hasn't arranged their test in time, but this has to considered
against the wider priority of keeping TB out of Scotland. We
have seen the difficulties of the disease running riot in some
parts England and a zero tolerance approach here is the right
one to avoid the disease getting a foothold.
"Anyone caught up by the new rules should get tests done
as soon as possible to remove themselves from the restrictions.
These tests are free and an essential part of protecting our
high health status. The Executive will also have to ensure there
are no hold-ups in getting tests organised and the necessary
                paperwork completed."
